Mother charged with infanticide

Following her detention by the police for allegedlly dumping her new born baby girl, Ms Miran Sambou, who is believed to have hailed from the southern Senegalese region of Cassamance, has been charged for infanticide, according to the police spokesman, Inspector Sulayman Secka.

PRO Secka disclosed that the suspect, believed to be in her twenties, is currently admitted at the Royal Victorial Teaching Hospital. The police spokeman, said that Ms Sambou was reported to have drank cold water immediately after delivery and as a result she developed some complications, hence her admission to the hospital.

It could be recalled that, residents of Bakau Kachically were on Friday, January 11th, shocked by the gruesome discovery of the body of a baby girl, floating in a gutter, apparently dumped by her alledged mother, Ms Miran Sambou on Wednesday, January 9th, immediately after delivery.
