UDP, Independents vie for KMC

The United Democratic Party (UDP) on Saturday nominated Mamadou K Danso as its candidate for mayor of KMC to face the APRC’s formidable Yankuba Colley. The opposition party also nominated 9 others to contest in nine of the seventeen wards in the Kaniffing Municipality.

According to reports, eight independent candidates were also nominated to contest for the January 24th elections.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the nomination process, the undaunted M.K. Danso said that his party made no mistake in choosing him to contest for the mayoral seat in the municipality. He emphasised that he is the right candidate for the seat, noting that he can do the job better and knows the people better.

The UDP candidates are: E.S. Sandeng for Dippakunda; F.K.Jawara for Tallinding; D. Sano for Ebo Town/Jeshwang; S. Dahaba for Latrikunda Yiringanya; I. Gitteh for Serrekunda/London Corner; L. Darboe for Bundung 6 Junction; B.S. Jobe for Bakau New Town/Fajara; F. Sanneh for Latrikunda Sabiji and O.R. Jatta for Old Bakau Ward.

Independents. The independent candidates declared for KMC are: M. Jallow for Bundung Bantaba; M. Sosseh for Kanifing; I. Jatta for Manjai; O. Camara for Old Jeshwang; Y. Jarju for Abuko; N. Fatty for Bakau New Town/Fajara; S. Manneh for Manjai and M.I. Cham for Ebo Town/Jeshwang.

Meanwhile, the formidable APRC party-machine has already bagged three seats unopposed: Bakoteh, Fajikunda and Kololi.

Finally, reports reaching the Daily Observer have it that the UDP’s Femi Peters has bravely thrown his hat into the ring for the Banjul mayoral contest to face the redoubtable Samba Faal of the APRC.
