Peltolan Kummi Kou Luyhdistys, friends from Finland recently donated learning and teaching materials to their link friends in Sofanyama Lower Basic School in CRR South.

In receiving the gift Mr. Saikou Sanneh, the Principal of Sofayama LBS, spoke at length on the importance of education. He said the gifts were geared towards supplementing Government efforts in ensuring relevant education is attained. Mr. Sanneh further assured the donors that the items would be put to the best possible use and go a long way towards meeting their shortcomings. The staff quarters at the school were also funded by the link.

Mrs. Anne Dampha, the head of the delegation from Finland, said the link is less than one year old. The idea came about when their school in Europe was looking for partners in Africa. She and her husband suggested Sofayama LBS in CRR in The Gambia. This was immediately agreed to. She commended the staff and PTA members for their hard work in supporting the children, who are the future leaders, to get an education.

She further stated that she hoped the link would continue to go from strength to strength and urged the beneficiaries to use the materials in the best way possible.

Among the other speakers at the occasion were PTA member Ebrima Janko Solo, Mr. Lamin Dampha and Dankunda Dampha.

The ceremony took the form of a cultural performance.
