The Supreme Court of the Gambia is today expected to begin hearings on all the appeal cases from the Court of Appeal and other courts today, a notice from the Supreme Court indicates.
To be presided over by the Chief Justice, the Supreme Court notice is pursuant to rule 4 of the Supreme Court rules which states that the Supreme Court would commence sitting today, 4th February 2008, and that it would be hearing appeal cases until 15th February 2008.
Among the appeals to be dealt with by the Supreme Court during the course of three sessions, the notice disclosed, are the election petitions emanating from the January 2007 National Assembly elections filed by Dulo Bah of NRP against Honourable Sainey Mbye of APRC for the Upper Saloum seat, Kebba F. Singhateh of UDP against Honourable Abdoulie Suku Singhateh of APRC for the Lower Baddibou seat and Amadou Sanneh of UDP against Momodou S.M. Jallow of APRC for the Upper Fulladou seat.
Other appeal cases expected to be dealt with include civil matters judicial decisions on which have been contested by affected litigants.
