Monday, March 10, 2008

Former SOS for Agriculture, Sulayman Sait Mboob, appeared in court on the 6th March, 2008. His witness, one Gibril Sowe, a civil servant, testified on his behalf in a case filed by Mr. Mboob against one Bora Bah over cattle sale arrangements. The case was presided over by Magistrate Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

In his testimony, the witness told the court, while referring to a document given to him by Mr. Mboob’s counsel, that to the best of his recollection, the document was the outcome of several discussions concerning cattle dealing. He stated that after several discussions between the parties he was invited on the 9th June 2007, to witness the agreement. He further indicated that when the meeting was convened the document was handed to him and he went through it. He adduced that he consulted both parties about the content of the document.

He went on to say that Mr. Mboob answered in the positive while Mr. Bah, the defendant, said he agreed because he trusted Mr. Mboob.

He further told the court that he told Mr. Bah that he would translate the content in Wollof, which he did.

He testified that Mr. Bah then signed the content after he agreed.
