Wednesday, March 26, 2008
A one-time UDP-sponsored candidate for the Bakau constituency, Mr. Nfamara Bojang, is now a free man after 12 long months of legal nightmare.

Mr. Bojang, who was picked up by the state security agents few weeks to the 2007 legislative polls was, on March, 18thacquitted and discharged for want of prosecution.

It will be recalled that Bojang was charged with two counts of conspiracy and being found in possession of falsified Gambian banknotes. But since the formal mention of his case almost a year ago, the prosecution could not produce any witness to prove the ingredients of the case beyond reasonable doubt.

Meanwhile, on the resumption of the case on March 18th, prosecutor Inspector Saine sought to apply for yet another adjournment. But Magistrate Edrisa Mbai, presiding, struck the case out on premise that the prosecution had failed to bring in witnesses even after been given several opportunities to do so.
