An Encounter with Mandou Bojang

Mandou is one of the Gambian defenders who have played the full ninety minutes at U-17, U-20 and national team levels without being substituted. This is not surprising, considering he has the pace and timing needed in implementing his role as defender.

When Pointsport caught up with him to share is views and personal information with the readers, the disciplined and calm defender has this to say:

What do you think are Gambia’s chances of qualifying to the 2010 CAF and FIFA World Cup?

The Gambia has a great chance of qualifying if the most important things are put into consideration for example early preparation, having a series of test matches to be able to produce the best players to do the job.

What are your hobbies?

Playing football, watching TV etc.

Which team do you ever dream of playing for?

Manchester United or Juventus FC

A word of advice to rising young Gambian football players?

To stay out of trouble and keep training all the time. They should also stay away from drugs if they want to be professional players.

What are your likes?

Football, food and music

And your Dislikes?

Trouble, Drugs.

How can you describe the support received from fans in The Gambia?

The fans are really great and their support is really appreciated by all players. They are our motivators.

Single

How is life at club football?

Very Interesting I think if you can handle playing with a successful club, you won’t be disturbed any where.

How do you enjoy playing the role of a defender?

I enjoy it a lot because if you know what to do, it’s the easiest role in the field.

Reggae Music

What does football means to you?

Football is my life

What football club were you supporting as a child?

Manchester United

What is your happiest football memory?

The U-17 African Championship in The Gambia in 2005 and also go for the World Cup in Peru the same year beating Brazil which was very memorable.

Do you ever have a role model?

Yes, Wes Brown. I like the way he plays

What has been your biggest disappointment?

Not qualifying for the second round of the U-17 World championship in Peru.

If you had not become a football player what would you have become?

I would have like to study accounting

What is your favourite book?

Spirit of good morals

What is your favourite food?

Mbahal

What are your views on the future of football in The Gambia?

Giving full attention to the academies and helping in enhancing grass-roots football.
