Gambia still benefiting from Global Fund - UNAIDS country rep

Friday, March 7, 2008
Nuha Ceesay, the United Nation       Aids (UNAIDS) country officer in Banjul has said that The Gambia is still enjoying the necessary support from donors in the fight against HIV/AIDs virus, adding that no report whatsoever has reached his office of Gambia being stopped from accessing the global fund.

Mr Ceesay made this statement on Tuesday at the begining of a three day civil society organisation workshop on intensitying HIV/AIDS prevention and the civil society organisation’s role in the effort towards meeting universal access. The occasion was held at the Tango Conference Hall.

According to Mr Ceesay,  The Gambia still continues to get the support from the donor community in the fight against the deadly HIV/AIDs virus. He then called for more concerted efforts in the fight against the virus adding that it is the responsibility of every body to get involved in the crusade towards the attainment of the MDG’s and the UN declaration to eradicate poverty and disease.

He concluded that The Gambia has achieved success in the fight against the disease but that still more effort is needed against the epidemic and he quickly called on the people to change their behaviours.
