Dr. Raye Sosseh visits home

Dr. Raye Abdoulie Sosseh, a US based Gambian Ph.D. holder in mechanical and electrical engineering, currently working with Sea Gate Technology as a research engineer in Scotts Valley, California, USA, is presently in town on a two week’s visit.

Born on 2nd January, 1975, Dr. Raye Sosseh attended Gambia High School from 1987-1992, after which he travelled to the United States, where he studied at New Jersey Institute of Technology from 1992-1996 and then proceeded to Georgia Institute of Technology from 1996-2002, where he attained double Masters Degree and a Ph.D. in mechanical and electrical engineering, at the age of 27.

Dr. Sosseh, a son to Alh. Gabbie Sosseh, was granted a patent by the US government in November, 2006, through Sea Gate Technology.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Observer, Dr. Raye Sosseh said that he had plans to set up a manufacturing industry in The Gambia, to contribute to socio-economic development of The Gambia and employ the skillful youths of this country.

He advised the youths to set up their goals higher and work harder towards achieving them.

Dr. Sosseh also thanked the Daily Observer for recognising his achievement and successes and for updating Gambians in the diaspora on issues in the country. He finally commended Francis Degull Njie, who inspired him to aim high.

Dr. Sosseh and his wife Madeline Ketcham, are expected to go back to the United States on April 2nd, 2008.
