Castle Oil Goes to Court for Breach of Contract

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Castle, a major company engaged in the petroleum-oil and shipping businesses in The Gambia, is in a legal brawl with one of its ex-employees, Biram Ceesay, over breach of contract.

The plaintiff, Mr Ceesay, a former Bosun on one of the vessels owned by Castle, is seeking legal redress in court for the restitution of $32,400 for a total of 108 months and D300,000 for breach of contract at the Kanifing Tribunal chaired by Mr. Jawo.

The plaintiff, while outlining his case under the guidance of his counsel, lawyer Darboe, rebuffed the statement of the defendant company. This related to a reduction of operations and a low standard of service. The plaintiff said that at the time of his termination in June 2006 their business was booming and services were at an optimal level.

However, while challenging his termination Mr. Ceesay informed the tribunal that only once had he received a letter asking him to leave the captain alone and nothing more after that.

The defendant company was represented by lawyer BSM Conteh of Lord’s Chambers. The next sitting will be held on June 26th 2008.
