ODMSC skills centre gets boost

Omar Drammeh Memorial Skills Centre (ODMSC), last Tuesday received carpentry and welding materials worth over D75,000 from Djappleen Foundation in the Netherlands, at a presentation ceremony held at the school ground in Ebo Town.

The donated items included, table drills, heavy duty plates, bending machine, hand grinder and hand tools, for both carpentry and metal work.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Modou.L.Jagne,  chairperson of ODMSC, described the foundations as a very good friends of the school. He added that, Djappoleen Foundation is a charitable organization that has been helping the school since its inception in 2003.

He pointed out that, the foundation is also assisting many schools in the Gambia, such as the NYSS, Glory Baptist, to name a few.

“on behalf of the students, parents and teachers of this school, I extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Djappoleen Foundation and promise you that these donated items would be maximally utilized for the purpose of which it was donated and we assure you that the fruitful  link between us will ever be enhanced and strengthened”, said Mr Jagne.

Mr Jagne further described the skills centre as a product of a charitable cause which aims to prepare young people for the future.

For his part, Frank Nagel, chairman of the foundation told the ODMSC management that they would have loved to do more, because the five years relationship they had with the school, has really yielded very good results.

Mr Nagel also advised the students to realize the chance at their door step  which he said is not available to many youths in the world today. He encouraged them to work harder in their studies and to always aspire to shape their own future.

Omar J.P Ndow the principal of the school echoed the same sentiments. He also lamented the inadequacy and lack of funds especially for students most of whom find it very tough to pay their fees as a result most of the students at the centre are now on scholarships.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the chairman of Djappoleen Foundation Mr Frank Nagel, his wife Levy Nagel and secretary Renee Van Fenbetgen, Muhammed .L. Jagne chairperson of ODMSC, Omar J.P Now principal, Ebrima Jallow, head of parents body and a cross section of students.
