The Point defeated Foroyaa Newspaper two goals to one fulfilling a promise made in a solidarity game meant to cement the relations between the two institutions. The match, played on Saturday morning at the Cocktail football field in Fajara, was filled with humour, surprises  and displays of talent.

The Point demonstrated their might and made their presence felt in the first minute of the first half when Yerrow Mballow attempted to score leading to a save by Foroyaa’s goalie.

Musa Cham, Point  mid- field Striker in the fifth minute wasted no time  to give Point the lead after a long rage shot that went past Foroyaa’s goalkeeper.

Foroyaa could have level the scores in the seventh minute but Point’s foreign keeper  Musa Saine made a perfect save for his side to maintain the lead.

The Point imposed a series of attacks on Foroyaa’s defenders and could have increased the scores had players like Saiba Keita, Ebou Manneh and Musa Cham not failed in their clear chances of hitting the target.

Despite having a good front line, Foroyaa’s Lamin Darboe and Yusupha  Bojang failed to capitilise on their goal scoring opportunities. The first half ended 1-0.

It could have been 2-0 in the 48th minute at the resumption of the game, when Musa Cham scored his second goal which was disallowed by the referee who ruled it as a handball.

Point’s disciplined defensive line was well manned by Mustapha Wadda, who cleared and countered any attacked made by the determined Foroyaa team.

A tactical change made by The Point’s foreign Coach yielded results in the 58th and The Point were awarded a penalty which was converted by Saiba Keita alias Junior Agogo.

After battling harder, Foroyaa’s consolation goal came in the 62nd minute through Yusupha Bojang after a defensive lapse by The Point.

The Point mounted series of attacks but never succeeded in finding the net. The game ended in the 70th minute and players of both  teams  were relieved having struggled  due to lack of fitness.

Following the successful staging of the interesting and argumentative game, both teams are looking forward to playing a second leg of the friendly meant to foster unity between the two institutions.

This could be another avenue to introduce a football tournament for the media fraternity.

Musa Barrow, team coach of Foroyaa speaking to Pointsports in a post match interview  said his players had done well. He added,“ I am rather impressed by their performance despite not training. We were very unfortunate to concede the two goals and be defeated.”

He stated that The Point side was more well organised than Foroyaa adding that, “ this is only the first leg, we will be well prepared for the second leg which will be also a home game for us hopefully by next month.

The Point’s Foreign Coach Augustine Kanjia described the match as successful. He said, “ we imposed ourselves on Foroyaa as my boys showed that they were not only good with their hands but with their feet too.”

Coach Kanjia pointed out that The Point team was enhanced by their foreign coach and goalkeeper.
