In response to President Jammeh’s back to the land call, the National Patriotic Students’ Association (NAPSA), last Saturday, converged at their new farm, located behind the Yundum Barracks along the Kombo Coastal Road.
Speaking to the Daily Observer, Sana Jarju the farm manager said, they are responding to the call made by president Jammeh, on the issues of back to the land and operation feed yourself. He said, that the association requested for the land from Major General Lang Tombong Tamba, Chief of Defence Staff of The Gambia Armed Forces for them to contribute their quarter to national development.
For his part, Hon. Seedy SK Njie, nominated National Assembly Member, who also doubles as the deputy national co-ordinator of NAPSA, advised youths to go back to the land, to ensure food self sufficiency.
He thanked CDS Tamba for assisting them with a tractor, fuel, seeds and also for allocating a land to the students’ association.
Modou Alieu Jallow, Chairperson of NAPSA, described the move made by his association as a step in the right direction. He said his association has recently concluded a nation wide tour of schools, during which, they discussed with the students, issues concerning their welfare in school and also the presidents’ back to the land call.
The NAPSA prexy disclosed that by 2009, his association will secure a farm land in all the regions in the country.
Tumani Sanneh, Technical Adviser of NAPSA also echoed similar sentiments.Dilating on the challenges encountered by the association,Mr manneh underscored that ,challenges of life bring quality of life and it is these very challenges of life that define the method of solving problems. We have been confronted with series of problems and challenges from parents, students and other competitors as a result of our value which made us realised that, a path to excellence is to increase one’s efficiency.He continued to highlight their success stories as follows;
* Some time ago, one of our students won the best speaker award in The Gambia that was in the year 2005
•Also, we secured 1st position in broadcasting competition held at GRTS two years ago..
