Ebrima M Joof, the principal of Armitage Senior Secondary School stated that 2008 has been a successful year for his school despite all the challenges encountered.

Among the difficulties faced, Mr Joof recalled that the school was hit by the global food crisis but due to the quick intervention of President Jammeh and other philanthropists, some obstacles have become past memories. “President Jammeh made handsome donations to the school which had improved the welfare of the students and teachers.

The Gambia Ports Authority also refurbished and equipped the school’s science lab and provided furniture and mattresses to the school” he said. On scholarship scheme, Principal Joof stated that due to the intervention of some philanthropists, some students were able to proceed with their educational career. He revealed that George Town Trust alone is sponsoring over hundred students.  He added that Gamswiss, Janjangbureh Area Council and the Japanese are all sponsoring students in the school

Principal Joof then commended North Bromsgrove High School in the United Kingdom, the Department of State for Education, West African Tours and all those who had contributed to the success of the academic year 2008. He also called on other philanthropists and individuals to come and assist the school.
