Defiant Sukuta coach wants a Bakau win

Despite seeing his side collect only one point in two group matches, the head coach of Sukuta zonal team, is still optimistic that his team can reach the last four of the on-going Muhammed Yahya Jammeh Perpetual Zonal competition.

After a goalless draw against Serrekunda West in their opener, Sukuta made life difficult for themselves when they succumbed to this year’s surprise packages, Gunjur, 1-0 in their second group match on Wednesday.

Now the 2007 Champions will face fellow strugglers Bakau in their final group clash on Saturday, at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium. Sukuta would need the maximum points and hope that the group’s other match between Serrekunda West and Gunjur at the SK East Mini-stadium goes there way in order to reach the semi-final.

Serrekunda West currently sit second on Group A table with two points and a win against the already-qualified Gunjur on Saturday will see them through no matter the result in Bakau - Sukuta tie. Admitting that their chances are slim, the defiant coach Barrow, insists anything is still possible.

“We are going all out to take the three points against Bakau and see what happens between Gunjur and Serrekunda West. This is football.  Anything is possible,” said Barrow who did not hide his frustration after watching his side subdued by the nine-man Gunjur side on the mid-week.

“I can’t believe that we lost to a side that were playing with only nine men. But that is what makes football interesting and unpredictable. And that’s why I still believe that we are in,” Barrow concluded. However, Bakau who are also on one point are keen to fight their heart out. The defending champions demonstrated this dream by revamping their coaching staff shortly after their shock 1-2 defeat against Gunjur last weekend.

Veteran player and Steve Biko’s head coach Abdoulie Bojang and Gambia international Abdou Jammeh have all been drafted in to bolster up the technical bench ahead of Saturday’s match, which will decide the fate of the sinking giants - Bakau.
