Digital watch: Pura organises second consumer parliament

Wednesday, March 25, 2009
The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) on Saturday, 21st March 2009, held its second Consumer Parliament at the Alliance-Franco Amphitheatre along the Kairaba Avenue.

The consumer parliament brought service providers face to face with consumers. It gave consumers the opportunity to express their problems and worries and have them resolved in the shortest possible time.

Saturday’s forum, like the first, was well attended. People from various walks of life were present to witness the proceedings, which were moderated by the very able Peter Gomez of West Coast Radio. Politicians, students, and journalists, were part of the crowd. GSM operators, ISPs, and energy suppliers were all represented. The Consumer Parliament, which was launched on Saturday, December 6, 2008, is an extension of Pura’s complaint resolution mechanism.

It is part of sPura’s strategies to raise and create more awareness of the rights of the consumer and the obligations of the service providers in the resolution of their problems and concerns. It is expected that the Consumer parliament will be convened on a quarterly basis. So if you have any issues, don’t miss the next one!
