Wednesday, March 25, 2009
The Gambia U-17 team return to action today when they take on hosts Algeria in the ultimate group match of the on-going African Under 17 Championship in the North African country.

The game will kick off at 15:00 hour in Zeralda, 40 km of capital Algiers, which is a 14:00 hour in Banjul. The match will only be a formal tie that will also decide the Group A winners, as both sides have already berthed the last four and World Cup spots after winning their first two group matches.

The Baby Scorpions who are being  touted as the possible challengers for the coveted crown, beat Guinea 1-0 in their opening match before confirming their last four spot with an impressive 2-0 win over Cameroon on Sunday. The hosts also got off to a fiery start with a 1-0 opening win against Cameroon, followed by a similar score win against Guinea.

Changes in line-up
Having already sealed the semi-final spot, the Gambia’s coach Tarik Souaghi is ready to give his second-choice players their first taste of the championship today. “I am very satisfied with the performance of my team and the result. Our next match is against Algeria, I will like to give chance to other players,” the elated Egyptian was quoted saying shortly after sending Cameroon packing on Sunday.
