DPWM Deputy Director On Coastal, Marine Biodiversity ProjectThursday, October 08, 2009 Mr. Alhagie Manjang, the Deputy Director of the Department of Park and Wildlife Management (DPWM) has disclosed that the second phase of the integrated coastal and marine biodiversity project is soon ending its semester. He said the activity report will cover the period between January to June 2009, adding that the report will also recall the objective and purpose of the project, present a report about their achievements, undertakings and unfinished projects. Mr. Manjang further stated that the overall objective of the project is to conserve, manage biodiversity in coastal, marine and wetland ecosystem in The Gambia, and transfer those lessons to According to him, “the purpose of the project is to consolidate and expand the strengthened coastal and marine protected area system and the conservation of globally significant species and habitat in The Gambia and expand marine species monitoring system achieved under the phase of Integrated Coastal and Marine Management (ICAM) Project in the sub-region”. ICAM, he added will achieve six results in 33 activities. “By the end of the project, the expected overall output will improve conservation and sustainable management of globally significant species in coastal marine and wetland ecosystem in The Gambia”, he concluded.
