Zakat Foundation, in collaboration with the International Call Organisation last Friday donated 40 bags of rice and 12 bags of onion to Bwiam flood victims in the Western Region.

The donated items were shared among 17 affected families in the community.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Regional Director of International Call Organisation in West Africa, Mr. El-Tayeb Abdel Gadir, said his organisation is operating in six countries in West Africa, namely Mauritania, Senegal, Liberia, Bissau, Sierra Leone and The Gambia.

He noted that his organisation is a charitable one and has been operating in The Gambia for the past 5 years.

He said his organisation was collaborating with Muna-zamat and has for the past two years been operating on its own.

He further revealed that the organisation has its Head Office in America where they have some other sister organisations.

He added that Zakat Foundation is one of their sister organisations. He also stated that this organisation has been rendering assistance to places like Wellingara, Sinchu-Alhagie during the Ramadan by giving them rice, onions, oil, among others.

“We also have some projects which are focusing on construction of school, mosque, hospital, among others,” he said. He said that this is the first time that this organisation is assisting the flood victims in The Gambia, thus complementing government’s efforts.

Mr. Tayeb further stated that his organisation will continue to assist the flood victim in The Gambia. “We are ready to support anything that comes from the government”, he pledged.

For his part, Mr. Serign Modou Joof, the Secretary-General of the Western Region Disaster Management Committee, who represented the Governor at the ceremony, expressed delight.

Mr. Joof then thanked the donors for their kind gesture, while encouraging them to extend their generosity to other regions in the country.

Mr. Joof also revealed that at the regional level, efforts are being made to ensure that all those affected by the flood are one way or the other assisted. Mr. Joof finally commended the Zakat Foundation and International Call Organisation for their timely intervention and urged others to emulate them.
