Thursday, February 26, 2009

A delegation of 14 players and two officials will leave Banjul today by mid-day for Mozambique to take part in the International Cricket Council World U-19 qualifiers.

The championship will commence on Saturday February 28 2009 and wrap up on the 5th of March. The Gambia will be making their first appearance at this level.

The Gambia will join Sierra Leone, Ghana, Rwanda, Swaziland and hosts Mozambique in a titanic battle to fill the single spot available for this zone. The winner will qualify for the World U-19 Championship.

The delegation, headed by the President of The Gambia Cricket Association Johnny Gomez and accompanied by Malamin Fofona, will travel to Mozambique via Dakar.

Johnny Gomez informed Pointsports that “they are very hopeful ahead of their first appearance at U-19 level. “I believe the players will perform during those qualifiers as they were prepared for the task ahead of them,” he said.

Meanwhile the U13 National cricket team is also getting ready for a tournament in Ghana in April.
