Fourteen students with their three group leaders from GwentCollege in Wales (U.K) visited The Gambia this week through Tillys tours, having raised over D70, 000 for the Glove Charity to benefit the rural village of Sam Mbollet, in Lower Niumi.

Speaking to this reporter shortly after their return from Sam mbollet village, the founder of Glove Charity, Mrs. Jackie Church has said that this students under took several fundraising events in aid of the glove charity and raised over D70, 000 which will greatly aid the (safe drinking water) project in the village of (Sam Mbollet) in lower Nuimi.

According to her, such events included Leanne Johnson, one of the group leaders, jumping from an Aeroplane in a sponsored parachute. She added that one of the events was organized by GwentCollege students to raise funds to assist the village of Sam Mbollet. She also revealed that the students brought suitcases of clothes, toys, education supplies, medical equipment which was also distributed by them to the village, and also some schools and Serrekunda Health Centre benefited. She also revealed that Leanne Johnson presented the village chief of Sam Mbollet, Alhagie Joof, with a gift from the mayor of Wales (U.K).

According to her, the Chief said he was very “honoured” to received such a wonderful gift from the prestigious mayor of Wales (U.K).

The Glove Charity founder revealed that Leanne Johnson, is the 3rd generation of her family to be assisting the charity through Tillys Tours as both her mother Maria, and her grandmother Betty are sponsoring the education of several children in the village, and making significant impact in assisting children in the village.

A big “thank you” was extended to the College by Jackie Church, the founder of Glove Charity, who went on to say that without the assistance or support of people like Leanne Johnson and students from Gwent College, the project in the village would not have progressed.
