Imam Tafsir Gaye of Banjul has once again extended his magnanimity to the poor and the needy by donating sugar, rice and mineral water to the less privilege.
Imam Gaye made this distribution last Sunday September 6th 2009, in Banjul as part of his annual Ramadan gesture.
Speaking at the occasion, Imam Gaye said, he has been doing it for the past ten years in the name of Islam, which preaches sharing and caring among Muslims, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to him, this year’s donation was made possible through support from the following institutions and individuals: Africell, Gamcel, the Lebanese Consulate Mr. Masib Massary, Alhagie Modou Bawo, Salman Enterprise, Muslim Hands, Mr. George Madi and the Lebanese community in The Gambia.
Imam Gaye used the opportunity to appeal to those who are better off to always remember the poor and the needy.
“We are appealing to the business community to lower the price of their commodities to help those in need,” he stated.
He also commended President Jammeh, describing him as a champion of sharing and caring.
The beneficiaries included Daraas in Banjul and individuals.
Alieu Mbye, a representative of the State House Mosque thanked Imam Gaye for the gesture.
For their part, the beneficiaries praised Imam Gaye for the gesture while praying for his good health.
