The former Gambia Scorpions skipper Jatto Ceesay has joined Cypriot second division side Digenis Arkritas Morphou.

The 34-year-old former Wallidan midfielder, according to Gambia Sports Online’s Europe-based correspondent, has joined the Nicosia club to boost their promotion ambition from AEP Paphos during the January transfer window. “Jatto has been left out of the Scorpions team since Paul Put took over as coach and his decision to move to a lower league side will fuel speculation that he’s well past his prime and has nothing more to offer the Gambia,” writes Musa Cise.

Digenis Arkritas Morphou was founded in 1931 and last played in the Cypriot topflight in 2000. In 2005 Digenis lost the Cypriot cup final to Omonia Nicosia by 2-0. Jatto famous for his speed and skills spent eight seasons in Holland with Willem II Tilburg where he was a regular first team player. In the summer of 2003, he left and joined Al- Hilal in Saudi Arabia where his spell was cut short.

He returned to Willem II in 2004, though mainly served as a back-up - scoring four goals in 14 appearances. In the 2005/06 season, Ceesay struggled to feature in the club and eventually he left in the winter to join AEK Larnaca in Cyprus before returning to Holland with FC Omniworld. Jatto made another trip back to Cyprus to join AEP Paphos until his latest move to Digenis, which currently lead the Cypriot second division table with 36 points.
