The Kanifing Municipal Red Cross Society, under the umbrella of The Gambia Red Cross Society, is said to be one of the strongest branches of The Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS).
Over the years, the branch has been organising annual presentation ceremonies, where volunteers and sponsors are awarded certificates. In line with this concept, the branch, last Saturday, held its 7th annual presentation ceremony at the Alliance Franco-Gambienne (AFG), along Kairaba Avenue.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mamudou Bah, vice president of GRCS, said the day is dedicated the lives of the vulnerable people. He cited the continuous support of the Red Cross towards disaster, noting that Red Cross is all about serving humanity.
He thanked the Red Cross volunteers for their commitment in responding to the vulnerable when a disaster occurs. He noted that the service of the Red Cross cannot be rewarded adequately, but he advised the volunteers to be respectful to its principles and to make the best use of the opportunities accorded them.
For his part, Hon Seedy SK Njie, nominated National Assembly member, thanked the KM branch for the service they are rendering to humanity. He revealed that Red Cross services are geared towards helping the vulnerable in times of disaster. Honourable Njie cited government’s commitment towards empowering the youth of the country. He advised them to unite and come together as one family, noting that there can be no development if people are not united.
He assured them of his continued support. For his part, the deputy mayor of KMC, Yusupha Sanyang, expressed gratitude for being associated with the Kanifing Municipal Red Cross Society, describing it as one of the best organisations that can be found in the municipality. He assured them of his office’s support at all times.
Delivering the annual report of the organisation, the chairperson of the branch, Momodou Bah, said the ceremony was meant to award volunteers and sponsors of the association. He described the KM Red Cross branch as the biggest branch in the country, disclosing that they have over five thousand volunteers who are ready to serve humanity. According to him, the branch, under the year review, has been engaged on a first aid training and sensitisation for its volunteers, in order to improve the knowledge of the volunteers.
He therefore called on the children to join the Red Cross. Certificates were awarded to hard working volunteers, sponsors, best home link and the best school link. The best female volunteer of the year was awarded to Habi Bah of Serrekunda Central Red Cross link.
