A Liberian refugee is seeking assistance from the general public, donors, NGO’s and philanthropists to help feed his family and secure some shelter.
Mr. Reuben N. Weeder walked into the offices of The Point yesterday to make his appeal. He said that he arrived in The Gambia with his family in 2003. There were eight in the family including a baby of just eight months of age. He stated that they were sent to the Bambally Camp in URR but because of a food shortage had to relocate to Faji Kunda.
“My friends abroad used to sponsor me but they decided to stop. We are now undergoing serious hardship as we were kicked out of our house because we had not been able to afford the rent for five months. I think of my families survival much more than I think of rent,” he said.
According to Mr. Weeder, the UNHCR is not helping even though they have contacted the office on a number of occasions. He called on the state, philanthropists, NGO’s or any other donors to help him secure shelter and sufficient food for his family.
