Littering Is Hazardous

africa » gambia
Monday, October 12, 2009

As littering is a serious health implication, the Taiwanese community in The Gambia, led by Ambassador Richard Shih and the Ministry of Tourism under the leadership of Minister Nancy Njie last Saturday led over two thousand volunteers in a clean-up exercise at the Tourism Development Area (TDA).

For us to maintain a clean and healthy environment, all hands must be on deck. To this end, we commend all those institutions and individuals who took part in last Saturday’s National Cleansing Exercise held at the Tourism Development Area.

We particularly hail the Taiwanese Ambassador Richard Shih and his countrymen, the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Madam Nancy Njie for their leadership example in the crusade by personally participating in the exercise.

Other institutions and all those residing in The Gambia must follow this good example by participating in the exercise to make the country a clean place to live in.

The exercise was indeed timely as it happened at a time when the winter tourist season is about to start soon.

We applaud the Tourism Minister for her foresight in initiating the clean-up at the TDA.

The high turnout of the Taiwanese community at the exercise also speaks volume of their commitment towards the development of the country.

We encourage everybody to heed to the advice of Ambassador Shih to help in maintaining the environment from all forms of littering. Commendations also go to ICDF for sponsoring the whole event.

We urge the Ministry of Tourism and the Gambia Tourism Authority to take a great care of the materials donated by the ICDF through Ambassador Shih.

It’s important to note that if the environment is clean it will reduce the health burden.
