Luniburg FC that is making its first Bakau Nawettan debut had collected a convincing two-nil victory over relegated Vietnam Border side that is still struggling to make an impact in the Summer Championship to sail into the knock-out stage which kicked-off at the Bakau-Mini-Stadium yesterday.
Both sides went into this decisive and the last game of the league cracker with the main objective of securing all the needed points in order to avoid demotion from the Nawettan proper, but it was the Youngsters of Bakau New Town that were the better team of the day, thanks to a magnificent brace from playmaker Ousman Njie who scored two powerful right footed shots, one in each half to put an end to the New Town side’s disappointing start to the summer championship.
Vietnam Border which is one of the oldest Nawettan teams in Bakau have been struggling to cope with life in the Nawettan over the last four years as a result of the lack of experienced players following the departure of quite a large number of former star men who have played significant role in uplifting the standards of the former Bakau league champions.
This year’s campaign has been one of the club’s worst performance after failing to maintain a place in the ongoing league and their hope of taking part in the knock-out was also dealt with a hammer blow after conceding a disappointing two-nil defeat to the rejuvenated Luniburg side, two days ago which will absolutely see them playing in the next year’s qualifiers. They went close to scoring on several occasions but all their efforts of putting the ball into Luniburg’s net were denied by Lamin Gassama, alias Licks who played an important part in his side’s win.
Meanwhile, Luniburg that have also endured some frustrating moments in the league will have to improve on their performance to stop the fancy Unique FM when the two sides meet in the knock-out stage in a few days time.
