Pentagon grip a 3-1 win over Cathy FC to advance to the quarter-finals of the Gunjur Knock-out Championship.
Pentagon FC’s Nyakassi, alias Ballack opened the scores in the 2nd minute after slashing through Cathy FC.
Their lead became short-lived as more experienced and well-composed Cathy FC put heavy pressures on their defence line to neutralise the tally through their midfield general Yusupha Sonko, alias Deco in the 8th minute.
Omar Jatta in the 60th minute made it 2-1 for Pentagon FC from a close range shut.
New Town FC also made it to the quarter-finals following their 5-4 victory over Nyofelleh United FC.
NAS FC beat league finalists Oxford United 2-1 to book a spot into the quarter-finals with fellow contenders Q-cell FC who outclassed Comium 3-1 over the weekend.
The quarter-final is slated for Friday 23rd October, 2009. Happy Gunjur FC will lock horns with New Town FC in the first quarter-final, while Q-cell FC will battle it out with Pentagon FC in the second quarter-final on Saturday 24th October, 2009.
On Saturday 31st October, 2009, Gamcel FC will entertain Santos United FC in the third quarter -final, while NAS FC will face Commit FC in the forth quarter- final on Sunday 1st November 2009.
