Malick Camara Clear the Air

After being highly rumoured that Serrekunda East FC belongs to the Serrekunda East Sports Organisation, the owner of Saller Sports Shop in the Gambia and also the President of GFA 2nd division outfit Serrekunda East FC, Malick Camara has dismissed the rumour that Serrekunda East FC is owned by Serrekunda East Sports Organisation and not him.

Mr Camara made this remark in a chat with Pointsport last Monday, at the Independence Stadium in a friendly match between the Gambian veteran players and Guinea Bissau veteran players.

He revealed that the team was formed by him and Joe Sambou, and the reason for naming it Serrekunda East FC is because of the honour the residents have given to Joe Sambou.

He further revealed that the team could have been named after Nyangabantang, Saller Sports or Joe Kalamba, but because of Serrekunda East Youth and Sports Organisation’s valuable contribution towards the promotion and development football in Serrekunda East, that was why he named the team after Serrekunda East. He said the team is sponsored by him and assured that he will continue to give them a helping hand whenever the need arises.

He finally urged the players of Serrekunda East FC not to discourage, despite the fact that they did not gain promotion to the GFA 1st division.

He expressed optimism that the team will gain promotion to the GFA 1st division, if they continue to work hard for the 2009-10 GFA 2nd division league championship.

For his part, Joe Sambou, alias Joe Kalamba, the former executive member of Serrekunda East Youth and Sports Organisation, said they want to organise an inter-academy football tourney that aims to promote grassroots football within the country.
