The Kuntaur Local Government Area in the Central River Region North in partnership with the Community Driven Development Project (CDDP) recently concluded a two-day training for sixty extension workers from the Disciplinary Facilitation Team (MDFTs).
Speaking at the ceremony, Alieu Mbow, the community development officer, said the rational behind the training was to enhance and capacitate the MDFTs, to effectively assess the compliance of the Village Development Committees (VDCs) in the CDDP 2009 intervention communities, with a view to facilitate the re-structuring of the VDCs, to conform with standards stipulated in the Local Government Act 2002, prior to the actual implementation of the community identified projects.
For his part, Omar Ceesay, the development officer of Kuntaur Area Council, emphasised the importance the CDDP attaches to enhancing the capacities of the MDFTs and the intervention communities, in an attempt to promote popular participation, ownership, and sustainability. He called on the participants to take training seriously in order to effectively execute the assessment exercise and the follow-up trainings at community levels.
