Babucarr Camara, The Gambia’s youth representative to the Commonwealth Youth Caucus, Africa region, has been appointed as the Advocacy and Communication Officer of the National Youth Council of The Gambia (NYC).
According to information gathered by this paper, the appointment took effect on January 5, 2009. Speaking to the Daily Observer at his Independence Stadium office in Bakau, Camara confirmed his appointment and described it as a challenge to meet the required mandates and expectations bestowed on him by the council and the youth population of the country.
According to him, as young people, they must work to leave a legacy that will be remembered. Pa Malick Ceesay, executive secretary of the National Youth Council described Camara’s appointment as being in line with the new vision of the council to strengthen it’s secretariat so as to meet the current demands and challenges of youth programmes and activities.
The appointment, he added, would not even only strengthen the secretariat but will also bring youth organisations in the country closer together. Executive Secretary Ceessay further noted that the council is also preparing to recruit a program manager and a finance and administrative officer to build the institutional capacity of the council on both program and financial management.
Camara has worked with the Department of State for Youth and Sports for some years as a youth officer and also served as the HIV/AIDS youth focal person at the same department.
