A one-day seminar to review the 3-year strategy for the country’s judiciary on various objectives such as the weakness and threats affecting the judiciary, was yesterday concluded at Baobab Hotel, Bijilo. The seminar was funded by the Legal Capacity Building Program Phase II.
Speaking at the ceremony, Denise Turley, project manager, Legal Capacity Building Project Phase II, highlighted the significance of the strategic projects. According to her, the seminar was basically meant to enlighten other organisations about the need to support the judiciary.
For his part, Haruna Jaiteh, judicial secretary, highlighted the important role of the judiciary in any state. He disclosed that the Gambian judiciary was part of last year’s war against poverty. “For the judiciary to serve effectively, we are now inviting magistrates and other judges to such strategic planning,” he said.
Jaiteh also spoke about some constraints faced in certain court cases, but assured the gathering that the right mechanisms will soon be in place to address such problems.
