Njogu quits Brann

Danish Club Odense Bolklub has confirmed the signing of striker Njogu Demba on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Norwegian club Brann Bergen on Monday.

The Gambia international returns to Danish football after a one year stint in Norway which didn’t go quite well. As part of the deal David Nielsen moves in the other direction with Brann pocketing an additional 8 Million Norwegian Kroner.

Njogu moved to Brann last January for a fee of 9.5 million Kroner from Esbjerg. He scored only 3 goals in 16 games for the 2007 Norwegian champions. Njogu was presented to the Norwegian media and Odense fans earlier today and assigned the number 22 Odense shirt. Odense’s director of football Kim Brink believes the experience of the Gambian attacker will be a positive thing for the team.

“We have increased competition in the striking department and simultaneously, we have ensured ourselves a greater width. “Demba is a complete attacker and there is much in him alone. “He caused problems for all the defenders in the SAS League, and he was a feared attacker for Esbjerg. “With his 29 years he stands in front of the best age for a football player and I am sure he will be a great win for OB” Kim Brink said.

Before leaving the shores of Norway, Njogu Demba had a chat with the Brann Television as he looked back at his twelve months with the Bergen outfit. “I would say I had a pretty good time in Brann actually. It was a nice experience” Demba said.

According to the Gambian, it was not the high sum of money and expectation that put pressure on him. “Brann bought me because they thought I was good at what I did, but unfortunately I did not do those things. “It weakened me instead to do the job of assisting and supporting” Demba conclude.
