The National Literacy and Debating Society (NLDS) recently held a two-day workshop for students, teachers, communities and water supply agents. The theme of the workshop was to train the participants on best water handling. The workshop, which was funded by the co-partner in UK, included the promotion of water supply in schools, at community level and fostering good decision making for better water consumption and consideration. The workshop also covered a combination of presentation, group discussion and field trips in various schools in the Greater Banjul Area.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, the president of the association, Mr. Yerro Mballow, emphasised the importance of access to self drinking water which he identified as an important component of accelerating growth. Speaking earlier, Mrs. Mariama Badjie also highlighted the importance of safe drinking water and sanitation. Madam Badjie said the NLDS programme was relevant, noting that it had helped the association to register achievements that are relevant to the community. Other speakers included Miss Fatoumata Jallow.
