Professor Dr Alhaji Yahya Jammeh, the Gambian leader, yesterday afternoon, received in his office at State House, Miss Nyillan Fye, the founder and organiser of Miss Gambia USA pageantry.
Miss Fye’s mission to State House was meant to brief the Gambian leader about the progress of her organisation as well as plans and activities in the country. Speaking to reporters shortly after her audience with President Jammeh, Miss Fye told journalists that the discussion with the Gambian leader centered on the promotion of education through sponsorship packages for Gambians.
According to her, she informed the president about her organisation’s educational projects in the country, notably, their sponsored school in Barra, North Bank Region. “This year, we are going to Gambia Senior Secondary School for the sponsorship initiative. Since our inception in 2006, we have done a lot of things interms of education not only on sponsorship but also on the establishment of a community library,” she said”. According to her, she also had an opportunity to discuss with the Gambian leader issues relating to youths development.
Miss Fye further told reporters that her organisation had created links in the United States as part of their efforts to promote tourism in the country. She then revealed that the next pageantry competition is scheduled for June this year, and she reminded journalists that the concept of her organisation is to engage Gambian women to compete against each other, as well as to promote the country’s culture and tradition.
She then expressed her organisation’s resolve to partake in the national development strive.
