Sanda cultivates rice farm for district chief

Thursday, March 12, 2009
The community of Sanda in the Niani District, Central River Region North, have cultivated a three-hectare rice farm for their district chief, Pierre Bah.

The cultivation of the farm was kept secret from the chief until last Tuesday, March 10, when they presented the bags of paddy rice to him at a ceremony held in Sanda. Pierre Bah commended his people for the gesture, noting that all this is due to the unity and cooperation existing among them.  He emphasised that the only way to overcome the global food crisis is by going back to the land and cultivating more food.

He called on his people to take farming seriously as it is the only way to ensure food self- sufficiency. Speaking on behalf of the Alkalo of Sanda, Ferrdou Jawo said venturing into agricultural activities is the only way to attain food security.  He assured the chief that the people of his village are ready to answer to President Jammeh’s back-to-the-land call.

Kumba Sinchu Bah, a native of Sanda, confirmed the love and loyalty they have for the chief and President Jammeh and thanked all those who participated during the cultivation of the rice.
