Soldiers, Civilians Returned to Mile 2

Friday, November 21, 2008

Two military officers and three civilians were yesterday returned to the Mile Two State Central Prisons, as their case could not proceed at the Criminal Division of the Banjul High Court.

They are Amadou Bailo Camara, Mankamang Sanneh, and Mamadi Darboe who are civilians; and Sgt Balla Musa Saidy and Sgt Modou Lamin Bah of the Military Police.

Lawyer Borry Touray, who represented the 4thand 5thaccused persons, objected to one of the counts - that is conspiracy - before the accused persons could take their pleas.

But the presiding Judge, Justice Joseph Wowo, told the court that he did not feel up to hearing the argument of the defence, as he had just returned from the clinic.

The five suspects were alleged to have committed the offence of robbery and conspiracy to commit felony, but are yet to enter into their plea.

Lawyer Lamin Jobarteh represented the 3rdaccused, while Lawyer A. Martin represented the 1stand 2ndaccused persons.

State Counsel Marley represented the State.

The case was at length adjourned until 4thDecember 2008.
