The celebrations marking the International Day of Peace continue to gain momentum in the country with a series of activities by civil society organisations, particularly, the West Africa Network for Peace Building (WANEP).

WANEP, in collaboration with the National Road Authority on Saturday, held a peace- march from West Field to Buffer Zone, where speeches were delivered by peace activists. This year’s theme which is chosen by WANEP is “Community safety and Peace building”.

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Pamela Cole, the National Coordinator of WANEP-The Gambia, thanked all those who have participated in the procession. She hailed the National Road Authority (NRA), the police and the National Transport Control Association for joining force with WANEP in making the event a success story.

“It has been a very successful walk and we thank-you all for your active participation,” she stated.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Sulayman Secka reminded drivers of the need to observe traffic regulations when plying the roads. He said that the police have increased the number of traffic police offices on the roads so as to control the flow of traffic.

Mr. Mamadou Senghore of NRA applauded WANEP for the initiative. He advised drivers to always observe sign boards on the roads when driving.

Muminu Sey of the National Transport Control Association implored on drivers to always drive carefully.
