Thursday, December 11, 2008
Over the weekend, thousands of Catholic worshippers from all over The Gambia and beyond descended on the holy grounds of Kunkujang Mariama for the annual pilgrimage.

This year make is the 22nd year since the Catholic community in the country started using the site as a praying ground. In his sermon to the congregation, Bishop Robert Patrick Ellison, who is the Bishop of Banjul, said the Christian community should follow the footsteps of Paul in the Bible, whom he said always brought unity among communities.

He said the body of Christ is like a tree with many branches but all those branches together make a complete tree. The Bishop said the world today is witnessing violence all over noting that even for Christian, it is difficult to remain immunes to vices.

He additionally urged the congregation to pray for peace and unity in their respective communities and families, adding that the peace people enjoy can be fragile some times.
