Noble ideas are burn out of noble minds. It follows that nobility comes along with a sense of worth which, if translated to national level, greatly influences the product of the effort of the people concerned.
It is not what others think about you that matters; it is what you think of yourself that actually matters as it is what essentially makes the difference. In fact, it is what determines what others think of you.
For us to attain our desired level of development, we need to think in the same way, and work towards the same goal. And we also need to identify ourselves to a common value; a value that is truly Gambian. This is the only way that we can carve a unique identity for ourselves. But all of these call for forfeiture of individual interest for the general interest to start with. We all have a role to play in this.
It is not often that society is blessed with men of such caliber. And that is why as a people we are under some obligation to safeguard such endowment when we realize their presence within our midst.
Such is the case for The Gambia of today. We are lucky to have got a leadership that is openly and consistently preoccupied with the thought of relieving its citizens from any form of burden. All we can do is to offer support in any form in return.
Such initiatives as the one being organized by the Gambia Ports Authority serve a typical example of support for the effort of national development. We can make it a success if we see it as something beneficial for all of us.
