Trust Bank Gambia Ltd last Tuesday handed over keys of the refurbished RVTH Sanatorioum to the department of state for Health and Social Welfare, at a ceremony held at the Sanatorioum in Banjul.
The cost incured on the refurbishment which comprised of the dinning room, kitchen, toilet facilities, laundry facilities is estimated at nearly a million dalasi. Receiving the keys, Dr Tamsir Mbowe, the chief medical director of the RVTH and chief medical director of the president’s treatment programme, commended Trust Bank for the brilliant gesture. He also thanked the bank for their cooperative and social efforts in making the refurbishing of the Sanatorioum.
According to him, the bank’s tireless efforts have been well noted by the department of state for Health, saying “you have been indeed contributing immensly to the welfare of the health sector and helping the health sector means improving the well-being of Gambians”.
DR Mbowe used the occasion to call on other organisations to emulate Trust Bank. Handing over the keys, Remi Joiner, general manager of Trust Bank revealed that the bank spent almost a million dalasi towards the refurshment of the RVTH Sanatorioum. According to him, this year alone, the bank have also spent over D798,000 (seven hundred and ninety eight thousand dalasis) on health related programmes on the health sector.
“We spent a total of D70,000 on the construction of the dinning room and toilet facilities of the sanatorioum. We also donated to several health organisations including the business coalition for Hiv/Aids, AFPRC Hospital, Gamblood, Bakoteh multi purpose playing ground. Trust Bank has also commissioned the female wing of the Sanatorioum last July” he said.
He then assured that Trust Bank will always maintain its social responsibility and thanked RVTH for allowing them to fully participate in the refurbishment and restoring the sanitorioum to the highest standard.
Saikou Janneh, the deputy permanent secretary at the department of State for Health and Social Welfare who depitised the scretary of state for Health and Social Welfare, said the handing over of the fully refurbished sanatorioum marks another significant contribution of Trust Bank to the health sector. He confirmed that Trust Bank has been a long standing partner of the health department and expressed gratitude for the gesture.
Babucarr Ngum, the public relations officer of the RVTH, chaired the ceremony.
Present at the ceremony were Trust Bank staff including Dodou Nyang, manager marketing and sales and a cross section of the RVTH Sanatorioum staff.
