Two Market Women ConvictedMonday, March 02, 2009
Sainabou Joof, Sainabou Sanyang, Ndey Joof and Kumba Bah, Serekunda market vendors were on
Sainabou Joof and Ndey Joof pleaded not guilty while Sainabou Sanyang and Kumba Bah pleaded guilty.
According to count one of the charge sheet, Sainabou Joof and Sainabou Sanyang on
Count two, stated that Ndey Joof unlawfully assaulted Sainabou Sanyang on the same day and place. While count three, went on to reveal that Kumba Bah and Ndey Joof fought on the same day and place. After the narration of the facts of the case by the police prosecutor Inspector Mariama Fatty for Sainabou Sanyang and Kumba Bah, who had pleaded guilty, the accused begged the court to temper justice with mercy. Magistrate Mbackeh then convicted and sentenced them to be bound over to keep the peace for a period of three months. Sainabou Joof and Ndey Joof who denied the charges were granted court bail on the deposition of D500 each or the provision of one Gambian surety.
