U-17 Assistant Calls For Massive Support

Lamin Sambou, assistant coach of The Gambia National U-17 team, has called on Gambians to come forward and support the U-17 team ahead of the 2009 CAF U-17 cadetchampionship slated for March in Algeria.

Coach Sambou made this call yesterday during the team’straining session at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

According to him, football needs early preparation in themental, moral and financial aspects so thatateam canperform to expectation.

He said that his boys were training hard for the tournament and expressed optimism that the team will do all that it takes tobring the trophy home andalso gain qualification to the FIFA U-17 World Cup to be hosted by the Federal Republic of Nigeria this summer.

Coach Sambou pointed outthat in as much as theteam is getting set for the tournament, massive support isneeded from the general pubic and the private sector and order to realise a successfulcampaign

“The technical team is also doing itslevelbest to yield good resultsin Algiers. In fact we intend to stagea series of test matches for the team before our departureto thetournament,”he explained.

It will be recalled that The Gambia U-17 team were African champions in 2005 and made it to the 2009 edition after eliminating Ghana U-17 side in the final round of the championship.
