As part of the development of youth football at a grassroots level an U-17 football championship, featuring twenty teams in Brikama, has been staged by the Kambeng Kafoo Sports Committee. The tournament kicked off recently between Soccer Stars FC and In Land Warriors. The game ended goal-less at the Carnal multi purpose mini Stadium in Brikama.

Shortly before the kickoff of the tournament Mr. Lamin King Colley, Chairman Divisional Sports Committee of Western Region, said the tournament aims to cement friendship between participating teams even though the idea is not to win but to participate fully with respect and discipline. He advised players to maintain discipline and play with seriousness in order to have a promising future in their careers.

The tournament was organised by the Kambeng Kafoo Sports Committee. The chairperson of the organising Committee Mr. Gibriel Williams said, “the aim of the tournament is to give support to the young talented youths to put an intensive effort into making sure that the young are given the opportunity to showcase their talents.”

He said the tournament is well known and would therefore called on individuals, stakeholders and others to render them support as the tournament remains self sponsored.

Sainey Sidibeh, Secretary General of the Organising Committee, expressed similar sentiments.
