The people of Upper Fulladou in the Central River Region, over the weekend, welcomed the new Police Intervention Unit personnels attached at Yerro Biri Kunda (YBK), at a colorful ceremony attended by the community and security chiefs.
At the ceremony, Lawyer Lamin Jobarteh, promised to give D10,000 each month for the PIU personnel for a period of three months. Welcoming the officials to his region, Alhagie Ganyie Touray, the governor of Central River Region, commended the security personnel for their dedication and commitment to duties. He called on the people of the region to work hand in hand with the security adding that, they are there to secure their lives and properties. He thanked Lawyer Lamin Jobarteh for his generosity.
Mambayick Njie, permanent secretary, department of state for Youths and Sports, called on the people of the area to help the security to effectively function. He urged the youth in the area to desist from drug abuse, which he described as a great enemy of the country’s socio-economic development.
PS Njie further called for attitudinal change and urged the youth to respect elders. He also called on parents to administer discipline on their children, as they are the future leaders of this country.
Nfamara Jallow, the commissioner of operation in Janjangbureh, spoke at length on the importance of community policing, noting that it will go a long way in reducing crime rate in the area. He urged the community to see the security personnel as their sons, daughters, brothers and sisters. He also stressed the need for more campaign against drug and other devices that hinder the country’s development.
The commissioner of PIU, Biran Mbye, expressed delight and appreciation towards the cordial relationship between the security force and the community. He urged his men to maintain that good relationship. He also saluted Lawyer Lamin Jobarteh for his contribution.
