Wellingara Man Charged

Famara Jammeh of Wellingara village was on Monday arraigned before Brikama Magistrates’ Court for willful damage to property contrary to 312, and going arm in public contrary to section 79 of the criminal code Cap 10 vol. III Laws of The Gambia.

According to the facts as narrated by the police prosecutor, it happened on 22nd February 2009, while the accused Famara Jammeh had a problem with one Ebrima Bah who is a relative to the complainant Madika Sowe. He said the accused fought with Ebrima Bah and they were separated, adding that Ebrima Bah was taken to his uncle’s compound. He added that the accused also went to his home took a cutlass and followed Ebrima to his uncle’s compound to search for him but could not find Ebrima Bah.

The prosecutor further went on to say that upon arrival of the accused at the complainant’s compound he saw a motor vehicle BJL 557 belonging to the complainant. There the accused took a cutlass and smashed the rear wheel screen, valued D15, 000. The complainant reported the matter to the Wellingara police station and the accused was subsequently arrested with a cutlass found with him.
