The Gambia’s Paris based reggae star, A Rahman, is currently in the country on a few months’ tour dubbed "Back to Africa tour" as part of his 2009 promotional tour of Senegambia.

The international reggae star, who is the leader and founder of a popular group A Rahman Sound System, was born in Banjul. He started music at a tender age playing African percussion bass guitar that blends with his style of music. He is now a well-established reggae star in Paris.

The current tour is third in a series of editions embarked upon by the star since the inception of the first edition in 1998. Meanwhile, the A Rahman and band are  criss-crossing the  big towns in Senegal; notably St Louis Ward , Kaolack, Dakar and  even in Zinguinchor –Cassamance . The Gambian star, has successfully released six albums and the latest album "The Revelation Life" features the Gladiators, a renowned band based in Kingston Jamaica.

The "Back to Africa Tour’ according to the Gambian star will start on 21st March 2009 at the Lama Lama and on the 29th March at Terranga Beach Club. "Also this tour will feature Gambian artists gracing the stage notably among them, Njie B the Conqueror. Commenting on the music industry in France, the Gambian star disclosed that in France, there are more facilities and means that quickly help one get to a higher hieght in one’s musical career.

He further went on: "There we have standard recording studios and international festivals where artists are invited to perform”. Over the past years, I have worked with so many renowned Jamaican artists; namely, Capleton, Anthony B, among others, during their visit to Paris. I introduced myself to them as a Gambian musician which they appreciate and invited me on stage as a guest artist." he said.

A Rahman further revealed that most of these Jamaican stars really appreciate The Gambian as most of them have first hand information about the country as they once staged a concert here. "I also worked with renowned artists in France; namely Israel Vibration, Tiken Jah facoly and many others.

On the "Back to Africa Tour", A Rahman disclosed  is a cultural and development project as they are helping the young Senegambian artists to improve their skill to international level. "There are a lot of Gambian artists out there in Europe, who are really doing well. Right now, we are looking forward to working with all Gambian artists to contribute our quota toward the development of the  country’s music industry. Our youngsters are great and full of talents who can deliver anywhere in the world," he said.

He finally appealed to the Gambian authorities to support their "Back to Africa Project" adding that he will be more than willing to meet with Gambian authorities even the president. "Am happy to be back in Africa, and  I love the country at heart. I am here to participate in cultural development of my country. One love and unity.
