The Youth and Child officer of CCF Kaira Nyining Federation (KNF) in Kombo East has said that the resolutions that were adopted by the young people requesting for the establishment of a Department of State for Children’s Affairs and the establishment of a Children’s National Assembly of The Gambia will be steps in the right direction, if achieved.
These, he said, will give both the government and child protection agencies the opportunity to ensure proper coordination of the implementation and monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the Children’s Act 2005 and other national and international legal instruments.
Speaking to the Daily Observer at the CCF Kaira Nyining Federation office in Faraba-Banta last Saturday, Lamin Darboe called on the National Youth Council (NYC) and the Department of State for Youth and Sports to do thorough follow-ups of the resolutions in order for them to be implemented.
The issues of children, Darboe said, are divided into different departments such as the social welfare. He further observer that the establishment of a children’s department will effectively ensure the due regard that the children deserve.
Darboe then called on the government and other donor agencies to support the activities and programmes of the young people. "This will not only give the young people the sense of direction, but also it will enable their programmes to have lasting and measurable impacts on their lives," he concluded.
