Friendly Football Match GAF thrash Royal Navy Crew

The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) beat the crew members of the Royal Navy ship in an exciting football friendly match played last night at the Independence Stadium, Bakau. The Chief of Defence Staff, Colonel Lang Tombong Tamba led his side to a sensational 6-3 win against the visiting British crew members.

CDS Tamba, who was also captain for the GAF side, registered his name on the score sheet when he converted a spot-kick in the second half.

GAF undoubtedly proved better side of their guests in the last night’s encounter that was characterised with fun and enthusiasms. However, the trend of the match admittedly showed that winning was not the primary objective as evident in the ‘nine goals’ scored in the stipulated full time.
The Royal Naval Crew members were trailed to 3-0 before they started to reply with some fascinating finishings. But their scoring ability could not match that of the settled GAF side.

The game, that was meant to entertain the visiting guests, featured senior members of both sides.

The HMS Enterprise is one of the Royal Navy’s two ‘Echo’ class survey ships. The ship that arrived in the country on Thursday for a five-day visit, was led by Commander DC Robertson. The survey ship which was launched, way back in the year 2002, has come to The Gambia, in order to undertake a hydrographic survey of the area and also to accomplish the work that was begun by HMS Roebuck, way back in July, 2006.
It is also thought that their visit will further strengthen the friendly bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and The Gambia, in addition to consolidating the military co-operation between the two countries.
