Monday, November 13, 2006
Captain Wassa Camara, the third accused person in the ongoing trials at the court martial, Yundum Barr, filed by the state against 10 officers of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) in connection withacks the March 21 2006 foiled coup plot has declared that he had never had any form of meeting with anybody about a coup plot and that he had no idea about it.

Captain Wassa Camara was responding to questions put to him by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Fegbenle as to whether “he, Captain Wassa Camara” had at any time held a meeting with anybody about the March 21 2006 coup plot and as to whether he had at any time given an account of his transactions with other coup plotters. Captain Camara said, “I could not remember and if I did at any time then I was forced to do it against my will”.
According to Captain Camara, he was guided by the Armed Officers as to what to write and say on the GRTS recording otherwise he would be killed, and that he was forced to mention one of the marabout with whom he had discussed the coup plot. When the DPP reminded him that “you Captain Wassa Camara said that officers below your rank cannot arrest you”, he replied, “I am telling you about army tactics which you don’t know and I know”.

Meanwhile, Alasan Boto Camara, Captain Wassa Camara’s brother testified before the court martial about the medical prescription he received to buy medicine for his brother.
According to Alasan Camara, one day after he had closed from work, Mrs Yaie Darboe, Captain Wassa Camara’s wife gave him a medical prescription paper issued from the Mile 2 Central Prison to buy for his brother, noting that he had bought all the prescribed drugs except one unknown tablet, the name of which he sorted out from the prison authorities and later bought and handed to the prison authorities for onward transmission to his brother.
When asked if his brother used the medicine, he replied yes because on one of his visits to the State Central Prison, Captain Camara told him that the drugs had greatly relieved his pains.
